The flag of the province of Groningen

The current flag of Groningen has been the official flag of this northern province since 1950. The four-color can not be confused with the flag of the city of Groningen: it only has the green and white of the province flag. The Groningen flag also has room for the Ommelanden of Groningen (Hunsingo, Fivelingo, Westerkwartier and Oldambt): these are represented by the colors blue and red.

The cross in the provincial flag shows comparisons with a Scandinavian cross, and is therefore a reference to the trade relationship that the North of the Netherlands maintains with the Scandinavian countries.
