The flag of South Holland

The South Holland flag can be called one of the most radiant flags in the Netherlands. The bright yellow and red shine towards you as soon as you raise the flag. Not only is this flag one of the brightest colored province flags of our country, it is also one of the youngest. Only since 1 January 1986 is this flag flying as the official flag of South Holland. 

For 1986, the colors yellow and red were already used in the flag of South Holland: from 1948 a yellow flag with a simple red stripe was used. The desire to add more symbolic value to the flag led to the flag changing in the 1980s: a lion from the coat of arms of Holland now appears on the current specimen.
