The flag of Flevoland

The Flevoland flag is one of the Dutch province flags that is full of symbolism. This brightly colored flag has been the official flag of this province since 1986, which has only been around since the middle of the last century. Flevoland consists of a reclaimed part of the IJsselmeer, at that time still called the Zuiderzee.

Symbolism in the Flevoland flag

The flag is characterized by a green and a blue surface, which symbolize the meadow landscape and the sea from which Flevoland was extracted. In addition, we see a yellow line, symbolizing the many cornfields that we find in Flevoland. In the upper left corner we find a French lily, referring to engineer Lely, who played a major role in the reclamation of Flevoland.
