The Limburg pennant

A proud red lion, crowned and with a double tail, adorns the pennant of Limburg on the breech side. The lion refers to the old Duchy of Limburg. Strangely enough, the territory of the old Duchy of Limburg hardly coincides with the current territory of the province of Limburg: nevertheless, the lion has remained a powerful symbol for Limburgers.

The colors of the pennant are derived from the Limburg coat of arms: in addition to a red lion, we also see the colors white, blue and yellow in the background of the pennant. The blue track in the background is narrower than the other two tracks and is said to symbolize the iconic river Maas, which flows through the entire province.
